Spring Break Events, Camps & Activities in Aspen
Spring break is just around the corner, and there is a lot more than just spring skiing to Aspen this year!
For the Artsy
The world-renowned Banff Mountain Film Festival will be coming to town on March 3-4. This tour will showcase a plethora of short adventure films that were considered to be some of the best at the annual Banff Mountain Film Festival in Alberta. The event is put on by Ute Mountaineer each year and is hosted at the Wheeler Opera House. A list of the films showing will be updated closer to the event date. On March 12th, Michael Lewis, author of bestsellers Flash Boys, The Blind Side and Moneyball will be coming to Paepcke Auditorium to share his work and spark conversation. Tickets are $20 and available ahead of time through Aspen Words. The show starts at 6 p.m. with a book signing following the event. For the Kids
Throughout the month of March, the Aspen Art Museum will be hosting various family workshops and studio time for children. The Aspen Art Museum also makes for a great day off the slopes, as entry to the museum is always free.
Aspen Center for Environmental Studies (ACES) will host various spring break camps at their Rock Bottom Ranch location. “Spring Ranchers” will allow kids to explore the life of a rancher and naturalist with ranch and agricultural activities, varied each day to bring something new. For the Music Lovers
While the Aspen Music Festival & School winter music lasts throughout the season, the highlight takes place March 13 at the Winter Music Benefit. The evening will take place at a private residence with cocktails, an elegant dinner and an intimate performance, featuring pianist Vladimir Feltsman. Throughout the winter Aspen Snowmass hosts the Bud Light Hi-Fi concert series with free outdoor concerts in Aspen and Snowmass. In March Umphrey’s McGee will play in downtown Aspen March 13, Dirty Dozen Brass Band will take the take at Snowmass Base Village March 21, and Iration will follow in Snowmass closing the series March 27.
The March calendar for Belly Up is jam packed, with live music almost every night of the week. Highlights for the month include Talib Kweli on March 7, The Revivalists on March 11, Above & Beyond on March 17, and of Montreal March 30. For the March lineup at Belly Up calendar click here.
For the Adventurous
On March 10 and March 24, the SkiMo race series, hosted by Aspen Expeditions, will have their last two races of the season at Aspen Highlands. This is a chance to get out and test your uphill skills with friends and racers alike. The race start at 5:30 p.m. at the base of Highlands and the course will be set ahead of time. On March 15 the infamous Battle in the Bowls will be take place at Aspen Highlands Bowl. This event, sponsored by Helly Hansen, is a chance to get competitive with your fitness and lap the Highlands Bowl as many times as you can; quickly and strategically. The event has three different divisions to choose from: competitive ski, competitive snowboard, and adventure, with teams up to five members total.
